Barnwood House Trust is an independent and endowed registered charity
able to meet special needs arising from serious physical or mental disabilities
among the people of Gloucestershire. The term "mental disabilities"
includes mental illness and learning disability. The Trust is empowered
to provide accommodation, care services and grants and to support medical
research into the causes and treatment of disabilities. The trust have
provided Gloucestershire Lifestyles with funding for the Access Project
and to set up this website.
The Henry Smith Charity

Henry Smith was born in Wandsworth, South London, in May 1548. He was
a successful salter by trade and purchased estates in various parts
of England. During his life he created a number of charitable trusts
for the relief of the poor and he died in 1628 leaving his Trustees
the sum of £2000. The charity still exists to provide support
to the sick and disabled. The Henry Smith Charity have provided Gloucestershire
Lifestyles with valuable funding for the Warehouse Project.

Scope is the disability organisation in England and Wales whose focus
is people with cerebral palsy. Their aim is that disabled people achieve
equality: a society in which they are as valued and have the same human
and civil rights as everyone else. SCOPE have provided funding for the
Gloucestershire Disability Forum.

Dean Birders – Birding for the disabled in the
Forest of Dean

Two One2One scheme members from the Forest of Dean, with the help of Ken
Shaw and Tim Fretter from Forest Voluntary Action Forum and money from
Give it a Go Millennium Awards have set up and been running, for about
two years, a project called Bird Theatre in the Forest of Dean. The project
supplies bird boxes and bird tables together with a starter pack of bird
food to elderly and/or disabled people to bring an interest of bird watching
into people's own back yards. They also produced a newsletter with useful
information and news about the birds you might expect to see at certain
times of the year. It became very popular, but unfortunately had to cease
due to the funding running out. We have a funding bid in at the moment,
which we hope will be successful so that the project can start again.

they wish to pursue.

disabled people to fulfil their aims and ambitions in any area of their

Birmingham Lifestyles

Birmingham Lifestyles works to enable people with physical and/or sensory
disabilities to improve their quality of life.
By providing support in all areas of life we endeavour to enable our
members to be able to work towards and achieve personal goals, find

We work with the community to find volunteer befrienders to provide
support, friendship and assistance with overcoming barriers.

Walks on Wheels is a project to provide information, descriptions and
maps of 15 walking routes in the Cotswolds that can be enjoyed by people
using wheelchairs, power scooters or buggies. Information about each
route can be downloaded for free from the website of the Cotswold Area
of Outstanding Natural Beauty. More information is also available by

Guide, based in Gloucestershire, provide a free and confidential health,
social care and disability information service for both the public and
professionals. Their database has over 4,000 local and national services
and organisations. The database is available on this web site, as well
as in 140 locations around the county.
Gloucester Dial-a-Ride

Gloucester Dial-a-Ride provides a friendly, door-to-door minibus service
for Gloucester residents unable to use public transport and without
regular access to their own vehicle.
Yercombe Lodge

Home provides short stay respite care and a small number of long-term
residential rooms for the elderly and younger physically disabled people.
The Day Centre provides day care for people with physical disabilities

The JISC TechDis service aims to improve provision for disabled staff
and students in higher and further education through technology. Achieving
this takes several routes. TechDis provides an advice and information
resource via extensive web-based databases and an email helpdesk. These
