Changing lives by challenging disabilities

Buddy Scheme: About the Scheme

Do you care for someone with mental health problems or learning disabilities?

Would you like some time to yourself?

The Buddy Scheme can help by taking the person you care for out into the community and supporting them in activities of their choice.

A buddy session can be held during the day, in the evening or at the weekend. We usually work with small groups of people at one time but in some circumstances we can provide one-to-one support using a paid support worker or trained volunteer.

The carer and participant can choose as many respite breaks as they like during the month.

We provide a monthly programme of activities, which is devised by participants and staff. These may be social activities like discos, theatre trips, dining out, dancing, clubs or pubs; sports such as badminton, football or ten-pin bowling; skills and hobbies such as art and craft groups, cookery and gardening groups or educational support at college or support in volunteer or employment opportunities.

Please check our calendar of events for further details.

We aim to increase the confidence, independence and self esteem of the participant and at the same time give you time for yourself, reassured that the person you care for is enjoying themselves in safe, friendly hands.

If you care for someone with mental health problems or learning disabilities and he or she are aged 18+, please contact:
