Changing lives by challenging disabilities

PSD: About the Scheme

Bullet Supporting People

This scheme is for people with a physical or sensory disability, aged between 18 and 64 and who live independently in tenanted accommodation in the county. The support must relate to housing matters and the support needed to maintain independence in the community.

GLS Supporting People Floating Support Scheme will help you to undertake an assessment of your support needs and then work out with you a Support Plan that will give you a clear indication of the areas in which support can be offered. This plan can be reviewed when circumstances change or at least once a year.

Co-ordinators work closely with other agencies to help members access all the support and help that may be available to people with a disability and can advocate for members to gain the support they are entitled to from Social Services, DSS, Housing and the Medical Profession etc.

It is sometimes necessary to operate a waiting list for membership and should this be the case the potential participant will be contacted by a coordinator and/or their referring agency as soon as it is possible for them to join the scheme and meet with the coordinator to discuss what support or opportunities Lifestyles might be able to offer.

An informative quarterly Newsletter keeps people in touch with what is going on in GLS and also articles on the wider issues that may be of interest to people with a disability.

Bullet Living in the Community

The Gloucestershire Lifestyles 'Living in the Community' scheme is designed to help people in the county with a physical or sensory disability gain an increased quality of life and integrate into the local community.

Members work on a one-to-one basis with volunteers who have been carefully matched to share similar hobbies and interests.

Members can take part in a variety of activities with their volunteer, from visiting the cinema to bowling and shopping.

The scheme has been running successfully in the county for many years, introducing members to new friends, new skills and new confidence.
